Favorite Albums (editor's note: Mark gave me at least half of these):

1. Frightened Rabbit
2. TV on the Radio
3. Girl Talk
4. The Helio Sequence
5. Lil Wayne
6. Vampire Weekend
7. Glasvegas
8. Sons & Daughters
9. Fleet Foxes
10. Los Campesinos

Favorite Songs:

1. "Family Tree" - TVOTR. From the middle third - where Tunde hits a Peter Gabriel-esque intonation - onward, this is simply the most beautifully tragic song I've heard this year.
2. "Kids" - MGMT. This song is sick enough on its own, but the lingering memories of the Girl Talk show put it over the top.
3. "Play Your Part (Pts. 1 & 2)" - Girl Talk. Mel's favorite Lil Wayne verse. Also, I've said "keep your heart, three stacks" approximately 600 times since August.
4. "Good Arms vs. Bad Arms" - Frightened Rabbit. Hard to choose a favorite off such an amazing album, but the last lines of this song are equal parts heartbreaking and brilliant.
5. "It's My Own Cheating Heart..." - Glasvegas. There may be no better guitar riff this year than the one that kicks in around the 0:50 mark of this song.
5. "Keep Your Eyes Ahead" - The Helio Sequence. Again, hard to pick just one off this great album, but I keep coming back to this track.
6. "Got Money" - Lil Wayne. "A Milli" and "Mrs. Officer" are probably better examples of Weezy's talent, but for by-the-numbers hip-hop, you can't do much better than this.
7. "Split Lips" - Sons & Daughters. The lead singer of this group is astonishing.
8. "White Winter Hymnal" - Fleet Foxes. Feels like a track off "Pet Sounds."
9. "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance" - Vampire Weekend. Love the violin that concludes this song and this album.
10. "My Backwards Walk" - Frightened Rabbit. Alright, I couldn't help myself.

Biggest Disappointment:

(Tie) Oasis & The Streets

This doesn't represent all of 2008, but here's how I'm feeling now. P.S. I refuse to rank:

Bon Iver
Sigur Ros
Wilco
She & Him
The National
Radiohead

I hate to say it, but I've been a bit disappointed with Vampire Weekend. "Blake's got a new face" haunts me.

In the words of Rocky Dennis (if you don't know him, you better ax somebody)

"These things are good: ice cream and cake, a ride on a harley, seeing monkeys in the trees, the rain on my tongue, and the sun shining on my face. and..."

1. Frightened Rabbit
2. Glasvegas
3. Fleet Foxes
4. Foals
5. Joe Purdy
