Thank You And Goodnight

Mel will be home in a matter of minutes, and with her triumphant return ends my ignominious run as editor of TMW. Thank you for sticking with me, be sure to tip your waitress and, wherever you go from here, go easy.

Oh, and everything this guy said...

O, CRUEL FORTUNA!

Mel In Hollywood: The Return

Mel's ready to go on her flight, where she's has the good fortune to be seated right next to the lav. See you in a few hours and an eternity of poop smells from now, Mel!

Mel In Hollywood: The Oscar Party

Finally got to talk to a very tired Mel, who got to attend and enjoy VF's big Oscar bash last night. She was a little groggy so I didn't get much of an update, but she saw pretty much everyone you can imagine. She said Elle MacPherson was the prettiest so I guess "The Body" has still got it. Despite all the star sightings, Mel seemed substantially more excited about the In N Out burgers served at the party.

Mel In Hollywood: Game Day

The Fleet:
The Lounge:

Admittedly, TMW's coverage this week has been geared toward the more glamorous side of Mel's job. However, there's plenty of grunt work to go around as well. Currently she's in the lounge at Empire CLS Chauffeur, waiting to inspect the wheels on a fleet of 40 BMWs to make sure they're not covered in brake dust. Nice.

BTW, she's in El Segundo. Watch your wallet, Mel.

Mel In Hollywood: Seinfeld

Mel saw Seinfeld pull up in this piece at the Peninsula Hotel.

Really, Jerry? Powder blue? No word on whether Jon Voight ever owned this car.

Mel In Hollywood: The Event

Mel's had events and parties all week out in L.A., but last night was the BMW event for which she had sole responsibility. By all accounts (or at least her account), it was a success. Congrats, Mel!

Basically, she gave a bunch of movers and shakers (including Twofer from 30 Rock as you'll see in the pics) the keys to their own BMW 750, loaded 'em up with a playlist curated by Michael Giacchino (the guy who does the music for Lost), and put them on a scenic route through the Hollywood Hills leading up to the Griffith Observatory, where a swank party awaited them.

On my next trip to L.A., I look forward to retracing the route in a Chevy Malibu Maxx from Hertz, and cracking a Bud Light tall boy in the observatory parking lot upon arrival.

You can check out all the pics here. I love that the first one is someone pulling up in a Saturn.

UPDATE: Here's a pic of her at the event with one of the founders of Live Earth.

TMW Salutes You, Philadelphia Eagles DT Trevor Laws

You're cool because you have dreads, and you have dreads because you're cool.

The weekend is in sight. Stay strong.

FRONTLINE: Inside The Meltdown

Frontline this week gave a typically awesome breakdown of the banking crisis. You can watch it online here if you're interested in reliving four harrowing months in a convenient one-hour program.

TMW Preggo Of The Day

Melanie Feurey

Due Date: August (?)
TMW Prediction: Girl

Here's one you may not have heard about. The Feureys are expecting and planning a move to the San Fran area later this year. It's all happening so fast. Here's an exclusive ultrasound pic...the resemblance to dad is uncanny. Congrats, Feureys!

I Got Your Hair Blog, Right Here

I guess funny hair has been a running theme here. We want what we can't have.

Believe In Yourself

Thrillist Philadelphia

Philadelphians...Thrillist just launched a Philly version of its daily culture/food/drink/style/events/whatever e-mail. It has some interesting stuff from time to time, if you're interested in being interested.

TMW Preggo Of The Day

Jamie Bloom-Meier

Due Date: July 22nd
TMW Prediction: Girl

One could scarcely imagine Jamie being any more radiant, but pregnancy most definitely agrees with her.  She's going to be a great mom.  Here she is tying one on at the pub after her most recent ultrasound.

Ya Lost Me

I thought last night's episode of Lost was weak.  Uncharacteristically cheap and bad storytelling, and events that should have carried emotional weight had none.  Hopefully the next few episodes will redeem this episode, as all the blanks it left are filled in.  I've enjoyed this season overall, but I remain uneasy about the straight sci-fi path it continues on.  Please G-d don't let this show jump the shark.  It's all I have.

I won't get into too much detail, because this blog's namesake probably hasn't seen it yet, but for TMW's spoilerific prediction (which Heather can attest was made last night without the help of the Internets), see the comments section.

One Of These Beautiful Creatures Is Neeren's New Dog

Kelly Watch

What's new with Chris Kelly?  I'm glad you asked.  Here's an itemized update from the man himself...

"1) CK is well.

2) 4 hours of sleep last night

3) I've completely done away with my New Years "no coffee" resolution.

4) If you call me from Italy saying you don't have the cash to pay your taxes, I shall have no pity.

5) "Every dumb thing I ever done in my life there was a decision I made before that got me into it.  It was never the dumb thing.  It was always some choice I'd made before it.  You understand what I'm sayin'?" - John Grady...genius.

6) I just wrote and then deleted a paragraph about a dream that I had about a Lil' Wayne look-a-like from AC.  His name was Richard C Brighton and ended up being Jacob in Lost.  This was all delivered to me via Jim Gardner of course.

7) CK is well."

Magic Is Everwhere

We Were Brothers Once

let them dance to their tune
what they want they will have
they will serve my head on a platter
and will I breathe? it does not matter

I have done as I said
as asked I spoke the truth
You were right then: they did not believe
words having been uttered by a Youth

I know not about fear
I have no care for them
sixteen years of shame is all I bear
and know not what guilt nor what Life is

they may have now used me
when innocence works strong
it is well until we fade to years
we were brothers once in all and All

Mel In Hollywood: The Bed

Here's Mel's bed at the Regent Beverly Wilshire, the landmark hotel featured prominently in "Pretty Woman." They've clearly refurnished it since that movie came out, because they no longer have the iron gate-like headboards that you could kinda sorta see Julia Roberts nipple through in that one scene.

Leap Of Faith

wingsuit base jumping from Ali on Vimeo.

Leap Of Faith...I refer not only to this video itself, but the fact that I'm posting it without having actually watched it. Chris Kelly sent it to me (a relay from Kevin McKay, actually), so it must be good.

Enjoy.

TMW EXCLUSIVE: Sneak Peak At Tonight's Lost

Faced with mounting legal bills in her fight to keep Aaron, Kate is forced to do corny commercials for a Canadian late night singles hotline.

TMW Preggo Of The Day

Barbara McKay
Due Date: March 28th
TMW Prediction: Boy

Yes, she's due on the same day as Steixner's wedding.  Even on his day off, he gives the gift of life.

While we all have reservations about another Giants fan being brought into this world, Babs' baby will no doubt be a cut above his Big Blue brethren.  Barbara's constant rubbing of her belly should ensure that this kid is a lover, not a fighter.  TMW is looking forward to meeting him :)

Pop And Lock

It may be old news, but The Big Shaqtus earned some TMW real estate with this performance. Awesome.

Did You Know?

Both Kellogg's Corn Flakes and Graham Crackers were originally marketed as remedies for chronic masturbation.

Hold Time: TMW Approved

While I don't think it's the masterpiece that is Post-War, Hold Time is pretty damn good so far. If the instrumental at the end of "Rave On" - a beautifully lazy cover of the Buddy Holly classic - doesn't make you feel, then I have but one question: who hurt you?

Resolved: Lily Allen Is, In Fact, Hot

Agreed? I don't know what the word chanteuse means, but I feel like it might apply here. The accent certainly doesn't hurt.

Impossible Is Nothing

Mel In Hollywood: The Office

Here's a look at Mel's Oscar Command Center. Buried deep in the Hollywood Hills, this underground lair is accessible only via a subterranean airstrip hidden behind the "O" in the Hollywood sign. As you can see from the photo, shippments of Fiji water and egg white omelettes are flown in daily.

Mel In Hollywood: The Ride

Continuing the auto industry's recent run of terrible decisions, BMW yesterday handed Miss Mel the keys to a loaner 7 Series. She'll be "rolling down Rodeo with a shotgun" in this bad boy all week.

Hey Mel...let me ride!

We've All Been There

UPDATE: This dude resigned today. Bushido's a bitch.

Congrats, Matthew!  Go streak the quad, flip a car, or post a harassing note on Rich Bruno's Facebook page.

New M. Ward Out Tomorrow

M.Ward, TMW's favorite troubadour, is back tomorrow with new album Hold Time.  In the ever-crowded singer/songwriter field (aka Rossman Rock), this guy remains a real standout.

Check out the exclusive first listen on NPR.org and let us know what you think!
